Misquamicut State Beach in Rhode Island is big on waves and fun events throughout the summer season. At 7 miles long, it is the longest stretch of beach in Rhode Island. You'll find a variety of restaurants and snack shops, along with surf and souvenier shops. Most feature agricultural activities, animals on display, along with midway rides, fair food, games, arts and crafts, live entertainment and more. Here are a few of the fairs coming up. September 3-5: Riverfront U.S. Title Series Powerboat Races, Hartford & East Hartford The Connecticut River will be buzzing with activity over Labor Day Weekend as professional power boaters from around the country compete in exciting high-speed races. It is the final U.S. Title series event of the season. Best viewing spots are Great River Park in E. Hartford, Mortensen Riverfront Plaza in Hartford and the Founder's Bridge between the 2 cities. Live entertainment and food vendors too. DetailsSeptember 6: New Haven Road Race, New Haven An annual Labor Day tradition in New Haven features up to 6,000 runners competing in 20K and 5K races, along with a Children's Fun Run. The 20K race serves as the USA 20K Championships. There is also a post race party featuring live entertainment on the New Haven Green. Spectators encouraged. Race Route, Details, Registration Info September 10-12: A Taste of Mystic, Mystic One of Connecticut's most famous shoreline towns rolls out the red carpet for a 3-day food festival featuring the unique tastes from local Mystic area restaurants. From chowder to cheesecake, lobster to quesadillas, bring an appetite for a wide variety of Mystic cuisine! There is also live entertainment. Check it out in downtown Mystic on Cottrell Street. Free admission. Details September 10-12: Norwalk Oyster Festival, Norwalk Large 3-day festival at Veterans Park in Norwalk features a Pirate's Coast Adventure with pirate reenactments, a BMX Motocross Stunt Show, tall ship tours, an oyster shucking and oyster eating contest, live entertainment, food booths, including a bar-b-q pit with cookoff contests and more. Admission fee charged. Details/Schedule of Events September 11-12: On-the-Green Fine Art & Craft Show, Glastonbury Over 200 award-winning arts and crafts exhibitors from around the U.S. take part in this outdoor art show on the Hubbard Green. Details September 11-12: A Taste of Greater Danbury, Danbury It's food, fun and fireworks in Danbury for this annual food festival featuring a wide range of cuisine from Danbury area restaurants. Danbury is celebrating its 325th anniversary. There is also live entertainment, a battle of the bands, a parade, 10K run and more. "Taste" takes place on the Danbury Green. DetailsSeptember 23-26: Norwalk Boat Show, Norwalk One of the largest in-water boat shows in the Northeast celebrates its 35th year at Norwalk Cove Marina. See and board the latest new boats, luxury yachts, fishing boats and sailboats. There's also a huge selection of boating gear and accessories. Kids activities, food vendors, free boat rides and more. Admission charged. Details September 25-26: Chrysanthemum Festival, Bristol More commonly known as "mums", this festival celebrates the famous flower of autumn with family fun such as a parade, tractor show, arts & crafts fair, a variety of live entertaiment, food and drink vendors and a car show.
